Latest News: 07-27-2008For those of you who were able to attend last night at the Kona Kai Coffee House/Restaurant in Kent last night I sincerely thank you. I really had a wonderful time and I hope you did as well. Also thanks to those who came to the Cutters Point gig a couple of weeks ago. I got some feed back from some of the attendees at last night's gig at the Kona Kai and they said that the food was really excellent. The place has a real special atmosphere and is kind'a one of those sleeper sites that you wouldn't neccessarily know about. I got to thinking about it and you know it is a darn shame that people think Kent Station is the only game in town. The Kona Kai, Bittersweet, and the Wildwheat are just a small example of some of the great little places that are struggling right now to deal with the loss of business to the Kent Station complex just a few blocks up the street. I know all about capitalism and such but there is nothing that irks me more than when I see some person dumping all his hard work, dreams, and savings into making a business and that business can be thriving, and lo and behold the corporate giant moves in next door and kills them. Take for example the drive thru coffe shop on SE 256th right across from the Yen Lui Studio and McDonalds, by Kent Meridian High School. Good location, actually a thriving little coffee stand, doing well for the person who took the time to develop that vacant lot and put up his business. Not more than maybe 150 feet away, guess who moves in.....you know it ..Starbucks. Like the world needs another Starbucks, or Starbucks needs another location. Every time I have been by there I notice 3 or 4 cars lined up in Starbucks drive-thru and one car in the other place (most likely the employee's). I, for one, will not fraternize the Starbucks there for that reason. There is capitalism and there is plain ruthlessness. Please consider the next time you go to the Kent Station that there are other struggling small business that are quality places and have great services to offer. They are just down the street a few blocks to the south and they have owners that have to feed their families just like you and I. These people have put their dreams and money and sweat into a business that has a lot to offer if you give them a chance. Please consider spreading the wealth around a little bit at least, and help them to survive. Don't always eat at the corporate places. Your coffee doesn't always have to be Starbucks. The little guy/gal will bend over backwards for your business. I don't want us to lose that small town feel in our community. I'm not saying don't visit the corporates because they also provide needed jobs and services, but please consider the Mom and Pop businesses as well. My daughter took several of my videos I made for an "America's Got Talent" tryout and put them on the web in the Youtube realm. Just go to youtube and type in FIREMANOLY and they should pop up. Or to make it easier just click on one of these links to see my own Youtube Channel or one of the videos my daughter put on her own channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/FiremanOly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e-rTJ9K_LA Kind'a cool but also kind'a wierd to see yourself on screen. As usual I make some mistakes and as usual I look like I just came back from a camping trip but take it for what it is and I hope you enjoy it. Later Gator!
Thank you so much for visiting my site. I am a singer/songwriter of sorts, and decided to start this site as a way for people to listen to a sample of my music, find out where I am currently playing, and what events I will be playing for in the future. Also you will be able to order CDs on-line soon. Although I do play secular music for certain venues, I consider myself mainly a contemporary Christian artist. My aim in life is to continue to grow in my relationship with Christ, my family, and with my music. I hope you will sign my guest book and give me your thoughts on what you liked/didn't like on the site or what you think would make it better. It is a work in progress so I will be tweaking it as I go and someday I hope to have a highly polished product for you. I hope that this site will continue to grow, get better, and be an interesting place for you to visit once in a while. I hope to meet you in person for weekly mass at St. Stephen the Martyr Church in Renton , WA (Sunday evenings) or at one of the other events I may be playing for. God Bless You, Your Friend in Christ, -Steve Olson
